Tactical K9 Deployments With Swat

(16-24 hours)

This class is recommended for tactical teams who want to incorporate their agency’s K9 team(s) into their deployments and be more comfortable and tactically proficient when deploying with their K9 team(s).

The class will include:

  • Working with the police service dog in a tactical environment
  • Training
  • Equipment
  • Planning the covert deployment
  • Teamwork and responsibilities
  • Tactical approaches and clearings
  • Searching methods
  • Apprehensions and arrest techniques
  • Long line deployment
  • Live fire and diversionary devices (optional)

Prerequisites:

  • An assessment of the K9 team to determine suitability for an assignment with SWAT.  Not every K9 or K9 handler is suitable for work with SWAT.

  • “Covert Movement” or equivalent training.

  • The K9 team (handler and police service dog) should be actively assigned to the streets as a team for a minimum of six (6) months prior to the start of this class.

  • Recommended:  “Tactical K9 Deployments for Patrol” for K9 team(s).

  • Recommended:  Long line familiarity for K9 team(s).

Other:

  • This class is primarily designed to simultaneously integrate or refamiliarize an entire team (up to 20 tactical operators) with its K9 team(s).   A larger team may require separate classes.  If a team has previously completed this course (or an equivalent) and currently works with its K9 team(s), the class size can be structured to accommodate newer team members and/or K9 team(s) that have not previously received this training.
